Entries that do not really fit anywhere else.

My cousin surprised me by giving me a first generation Skywarp for Christmas this year. This thing is in amazing condition for being about 20 years sold. I have placed it in a display case to keep it protected. Sadly my cheap digital camera does it little justice, this thing is beautiful.

When we were kids back in the mid 80s I had a Skywarp, but that one did not survive the decades as well as this one. I always liked Skywarp, if for no better reason than his awesome color scheme. I have considered a few times getting myself one off eBay, but never got around to it.

Anyway, this thing wins pretty hard.

Today I received my order for Shanda the Panda issues 41 through 45, putting me finally up to date with this comic series.

The past year or so I have been struggling to get my hands on old back issues that I didn't have, finally now I have them all from 0 to 45. Strangely issue 30 was the hardest out of all to get.

Anyway, this put me in a good mood so I figured I'd post about it.

On the 4th of July I went to see Transformers 2007. I was a fan of the original Transformers series in my younger days, so I was a little apprehensive over what Micheal Bay might do to my beloved childhood.

I went into the theater with zero expectations. Granted, I figured it would be a fine movie on its own, what with all the money they threw at it, but I wasn't expecting it to do the franchise any justice.

As it turned out, the movie was great, on its own and for the franchise. There is plenty to nitpick about, and the plot is as thin as most heavily CGI summer blockbusters these days, but it was entertaining regardless. It turned out that the designs for the Transformers themselves worked really well. When the designs were first leaked I hated them, but I have to say that seeing them in action really changed my opinion.

I suppose it didn't hurt the movie that much, but I felt they made it a little too kid friendly. I understand why they did it, to get a new generation into the franchise and make that much more money at the box office, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

My only other real gripe about the film was that Bay had seen fit to not take Frank Welker on to voice Megatron. Welker did audition, but Bay didn't hire him, saying that Welker's trademark voicing of the original Megatron was too soft for his vision of this new Megatron. He says that, but Welker voiced Megatron in the movie's video game, and I think the classic voice worked for this new Megatron just fine, it fit perfectly.

I think this is a flick worth seeing, it can even entertain those who never heard of Tranformers before.
