Introduction
Welcome to Racso's Place, my personal website.
This website is little more than a place for me to share my thoughts, interests, and creations with those who happen by.
Reopened
On Sunday, December 17, 2006 racso.com reopened after a seven month hiatus with a new layout, and a home brewed content management system.
Back in May 2006 I had to cancel my dedicated web server account due to expenses. This didn't trouble me too much, but it did cause troubles for others that I hosted. For me though, around that time, I had largely lost interest in running websites.
Fast forward a few months later and here I am back into it again, no dedicated web server this time though, just an inexpensive DreamHost account.
Yukino
Before writing my own system I did try WordPress and Drupal. Both are nice, free content management systems, but neither felt right for me.
Deciding to write my own system from scratch has been something I wanted to avoid as I knew it would take a while, not to mention that my knowledge of PHP is not far above novice. I have written a few nice things with PHP but nothing ever this complex. As expected I found myself starting over from scratch a few times, and worse than that there were several pauses in work where I would go weeks at a time without touching the project.
As you can see though, despite this lack of motivation I finally managed to finish it. After doing so I had to give it a name, I chose to name it after "Yukino Miyazawa" who is the leading female character from the anime and manga series "Kare Kano". You can see Yukino pictured above, as she appears on the cover of volume 16.
Title Font
For those interested, the font I used in the title image is "Occidental".
I chose this font style because it is used on the covers of the original hard bound, library editions of Jane Leslie Conly's Rats of NIMH sequals. I took the name "Racso" from the first of these, "Racso and the Rats of NIMH".
